The Chicago Athenaeum: International Architecture Awards 2024 for Thomas House
The Thomas House is a Grade II-A heritage structure located in the Fort Precinct on D.N Road, Mumbai. This iconic building, constructed during 1900s was the Indian headquarters of the famous American Photographic company - Eastman Kodak. This building was originally designed to accommodate a cold room in the basement, warehouses, a shop, photo labs, etc. By 1950s, as the company's growth declined due to tough competition from various Japanese manufactures, Kodak House was sold to the Deutsche Bank of Germany in 1993. With the establishment of the Heritage Regulation of Greater Bombay 1995, the entire stretch of D.N. Road was declared a heritage streetscape, with each building along the avenue assigned a Grade II-A classification.
