Celebrating the opening of city’s first Mumbai Gallery
One of the objectives of CSMVS upon completion of 100 years was to dedicate a gallery for Mumbai. The city of dreams, a city of opportunities, a city of migrations, a city of cosmopolitanism. Mumbai represents the creativity, passion, resilience, commitment, flexibility, and courage of individuals who have gathered in this geographical location, over hundreds of years, to co-exist. The need for such a space was recognized and Somaya Sampat was approached to curate this exhibition.
The People of Mumbai is the exhibition that represents the spirit of the city. The exhibition is built on the works, stories, dreams, and lives of the people. It spans a diverse group that represents the citizens of Mumbai. Experience the individual narratives of the city told by its people. Together it forms the identity of Mumbaiker’s – of who they were, of what they are and of what we see for the future.
It was a collective effort of artists, designers, committees, institutions, collaborators representing the spirit of 21 million people of Mumbai. This effort was celebrated by felicitating everyone who had been a part of this process of brining together the collective envisaged by CSMVS.
